Dojo Bar

The owner brought myself and my fiancée to a dojo where we were given a karate lesson by both himself and his own trainer / sensei.It was very generous of him to do so as he didn't gain any money or anything for the gesture.His bar is cool... go there.

The Dojo Bar (or as our group referred to it, Headquarters) is THE hub for Karate enthusiasts to meet like-minded people from Okinawa, as well as around the world. Also was hands-down the best bar we visited in Naha. The staff are top-notch, upbeat and outgoing. Wide selection of drink options. Try the snake sake! Food is amazing (highly recommend their pizza). James was a great host and local guide. We look forward to visiting there again in the near future!

Great bar! The place to be as a martial artist in Naha. The bar is normally filled with karateka from all over the world. Nice easy going atmosphere. The owner, James, has his dojo across the street. Nice awamori and great pizza! Very cool staff!

The most welcoming, friendly bar I've been to in Okinawa during my 2nd two week visit. The incredibly kind staff were EXTREMELY helpful with directions around Naha and information about Okinawan life! If I lived on the island I would visit DOJO bar daily. Highly recommend this for anyone speaking English looking for a comfortable evening to relax.

This is a nice place with good craft beer, but a bit expensive, and not enough locals for me.Still, it's a good place to talk about karate and Okinawa life!

Omg what an experience; as a first time my Sensei introduced me to the dojo bar. A bar with great food, beverages, and able to fit ur name and style somewhere where u will be noticed. Food is awesome and the sake omg has to be initiated as a first timer with the sake firm the tank with the snakes in there. Great to see many martial artist signs their name and martial arts-style. We had a great time arigato gozaimashita

Simply a must if you are a Karate fan.

An excellent combination of a real traditional dojo right across the street from a rea,l intimate, lively bar (run and owned by the same proprietor). If you're serious practitioner in karate you can train hard at their dojo and then unwind with a refreshing beverage or just stopped in after a hard day of work and do the same and talk about everything especially karate and the martial arts.Congenial, fun bilingual staff (Japanese/English). Decent bar food. My favorite was the Okinawa Pizza (nice sauce and soft crust topped with bacon, cheese, spinach and a soft sunny side up egg) made fresh in their own kitchen. If you order the Spicy Pizza, and want it spicy, let them know that you want EXTRA jalapenos!The rattlesnakes in the jars are not just for show it's an actual drink.Don't forget to tag the wall.

The Dojo Bar is a unique Okinawan experience that I can't imagine it working anywhere else in the world! James P and his wonderful staff have created the ultimate haven for martial artists (and groupies) visiting Okinawa. Like the Budokan itself, Masters and students from all styles freely mix, talk and exchange information. It is a wonderful place.

Sounded like a cool place, a little empty when we went so I can't fairly say it's better than ok. A little off the beaten path.

The Dojo Bar is reason enough to visit Naha. Not to be missed. Great food, drink, company, atmosphere. And you never know who you might run into.

For the karate tourist, this is a good place to start with. James is very friendly and readily answered some questions I had. One of the bartenders is Yuri, who's local, and she has a wealth of suggestions on places you can visit when in town. Even if you're not a karate tourist like me, its a cool place to hang out. I've come in a few times for the past couple of weeks, just to type up my blogs. Good atmosphere, good music, good pizza. Oh, and the fried squid legs are a personal favourite.

You have to visit Dojo Bar if you are in Okinawa. A must see destination. James and the staff are awesome!

Always a pleasure to revisit the dojo bar. I'm a 'commuting' regular from 6500 miles away. James and the team are just fantastic and make everyone feel welcome. Pop in, sign the wall, taste the local beer, awamori and other drinks and then sample their excellent food. Highly recommended and a must see if in Naha. James offers accommodation and seminars and trips around Okinawa, along with invaluable knowledge and information of the area. There is also a fantastic range of Dojo bar goods including a very tasteful clothing range. Now there is also the Asato Dojo, opposite on the other side of the street. Get some mat time or take a seminar or class there. Very high quality teachers.

The karate nerd (their original cocktail - awamori, calpis, and lemon) is fantastic. I don't like awamori (okinawa liquor) but the cocktail is fantastic

Okinawa is the birthplace of karate it is fitting it has a Dojo Bar, the food is good and service is super. Fun thing, you can leave your mark at the walls or where you find a spot lol

Great casual bar. Bar has martial arts and staff are all practicing martial artists. Staff are friendly, speak English, Japanese and some even speak a third. Food is good and the drinks are good and a fair price. For me it was a welcome break.
